Application Magna 305 Electrode for Welding Heavy-Duty Steel Constructions

Magna 305 Electrode for Welding Heavy-Duty Steel Constructions is the electrode for all steel constructions. It is a highly alloyed electrode for joining newer structural steels such as T-1 and for general use in welding heavy steel types.

Use DC reversed polarity or AC. Generally set the machine to the same amperage as normally used with the same machine and ordinary electrodes of the same diameter.

For vertical up welding, the technique of steady progression must be used, in contrast to the whipping technique used with ordinary electrodes. Do not pull the electrode out of the molten pool during build-up welding. The correct weaving technique is not to lengthen the arc at the edges, but to use a short, even arc.

T-1 steel: Magna 305 was specially developed for high yield strength steels such as T-1. The physical properties of Magna 305 are equal to or exceed the physical properties of these high yield strength steels in both the “as-welded” and “stress-relieved” conditions, ensuring 100% joint efficiency at all times.

Furthermore, Magna 305 delivers excellent performance for all fabrication and maintenance applications where high tensile strength welds are required. The following ASTM steel grades are successfully welded with Magna 305:

  • A148 – Gr. 120-95 A730 – Gr. N A469 – Class 5
  • A288 – Class 3,4 A291 – Class 4 A470 – Class 6
  • A471 – Gr. B2, B3 A354 – Gr. BC
  • A668-90 Class A to F and AH to AF
  • A668-90 Class G to N and GH to NH

Preheating is not required with Magna 305.
