Universal Hardfacing Electrode

Magna 401 is a special electrode welding rod developed for applications where components are exposed to severe abrasive wear and metal-on-metal friction. The electrode deposits a very hard, chromium carbide-reinforced weld layer that offers excellent wear resistance, even under thermally and mechanically demanding conditions.

Magna 401 Universal Hardfacing Electrode

  • Top-level wear resistance: The weld layer contains a high concentration of primary chromium carbides (Cr-carbides), ensuring long-lasting protection against erosion, friction, and abrasion.
  • Deposit Hardness: Typically 55–60 HRC – sufficient for heavily loaded industrial components.
  • Thermal Resistance: The deposit maintains its hardness up to approximately 600 °C.
  • Structural Stability: Thanks to the specially formulated composition, the weld remains intact, without deformation or cracking, even under alternating stress. Low failure rate: Due to the good adhesion and minimal shrinkage upon cooling, the risk of cracks or detachment is exceptionally low.

Application Magna 401 Universal Hardfacing Electrode

Magna 401 Universal Hardfacing Electrode is ideal for hardfacing wear parts in sectors such as mining, cement industry, agriculture, recycling, steel mills, and bulk transport.

 

Typical parts include:

  • Breaker plates, rollers, chains, and augers
  • Excavator buckets, wear strips, vibrating feeders
  • Conveyor components, screw conveyors, fan blades

 

Advantages for Production and Maintenance:

  • Good arc stability and low spatter – less post-processing
  • Suitable for both steel and manganese steel (max. 12%)
  • Applying 1 to 2 layers is sufficient for maximum wear resistance
  • Easy processing with standard arc welding equipment
